What is it?

The Apache HTTP Server is a powerful and flexible HTTP/1.1 compliant web server. Originally designed as a replacement for the NCSA HTTP
Server, it has grown to be the most popular web server on the Internet. As a project of the Apache Software Foundation, the developers aim to collaboratively develop and maintain a robust, commercial-grade, standards-based server with freely available source code.

The survey by Netcraft (http://www.netcraft.com/survey/) shows that Apache is today more widely used than all other web servers combined.

Put an End to Word Attachments in the non-standard, bloated .doc format that is Microsoft’s secret, rather than in the international, public, and more efficient format of plain text. Sending people documents in Word format has bad effects, because that practice puts pressure on them to use Microsoft software. In effect, you become a buttress of the Microsoft monopoly. Microsoft can (and did recently in Kenya and Brazil) have local police enforce laws that prohibit students from studying the code, prohibit entrepeneurs starting new companies, and prohibit professionals offering their services. Please don’t give them your support. This specific problem is a major obstacle to the broader adoption of GNU/Linux.

Would you please reconsider the use of Word format for communication with other people?
See http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html for more details.

Hi Guys, How are things with U? I hope you all are fine the same way I’m. I’m sending this to you because of an important reason. I’m going to re-launch the website ‘troyal.8m.net’. (I think you all know what it is about) By its name, ‘t’-Tamil ‘royal’-Royalist. I want to make this site an official site of our batch. My vision is to create an online platform for all of us to get back together, and so on. For that first of all I want to put up a fully updated database of all you guys, because many of our phone numbers, addresses, e-mails, etc. have changed since we left the school. Especially as many of you guys have plans to go abroad for higher studies, online will be the best channel for communications. So what I want you all to do is to send a short bio of your self to me. And also send all the e-mail addresses of our friends you know. Mainly please spread this news or forward this mail to the guys you know. Hope to see you soon online. Best wishes for the future. Hi,
I’m writing this to you after being tired of validating one of my sites. (Fow…)

Why validation?
There are so many different web browsers which are running on different platforms, and each and every one of them has their own behavioral patters on functioning and displaying web sites. So if you design a site on a platform (e.g.: Linux), and using a browser to view your site when developing it (e.g.: Mozila), and you complete your site as you desired and it will look perfect on your computer. After uploading it to a server and view it from another computer which runs on a different platform, using a different browser, you may experience a major set back that is your site want look the same way it was on your computer. The reason for this is different browsers render different coding (mainly tables, borders, etc.) in different ways. So these elements will look differently on different browsers.

If you are developing your site focusing only on a small group of viewers who are using the same browser you are using then you have no problem.
But if you are developing a public site which will be viewed by different kind of users through different browsers and different platforms you need to make your site look ok on all browsers. This is where validation comes.
[The bad news is many famous site a not valid on W3C; e.g.: Google & Yahoo! :-( ]

What is validation?
Validation is to make your site come under some rules, which will enable your HTML codes to render the same way on many browsers. For this you will have to omit some coding and add some others. For more information visit http://www.w3schools.com/site/site_validate.asp

Is validation a must?I have a big BIG question over this. We say that we validate a site to make it viewable on all/many of the browsers, but my problem is “Can’t the people who develop or program these browsers, make all the browsers to come under a same standard?”

[In this post I’ve said a lot of technical matters, but of which I know very little, so there may be mistakes or errors. So if you find such one please notify me through e-mail (talkout@gmail.com) and that will help me to correct the error}

Just Validated,
Nimal

Why should we turn to ‘Open source / Freeware’ as soon as we can?

You all must have herd about the resent raids on pirated CDs and the attempts of the multinational software companies such as Microsoft to enter the Sri Lankan market. If that happens and the copyrights laws tightened, we won’t be able use the pirated software anymore.
Then how are you going to face the future?
Can you afford to pay in ten thousands to buy software?
???
What is the solution?
I say ‘Open source / Freeware’. What do you think?

I hope to discuss on this matter in future. Send your comments on this topic.

Regrets,
Nimal

This is my first choice video editor. I’ve started using it recently and I’m satisfied about the results. It gives good real-time preview which is comparatively better than others (such as Ulead/Adobe). The new version of Vegas includes the following useful features; Enhanced interface, including Windows XP theme support Multiple docking windows User configurable window layout Customizable keyboard shortcuts Subclip creation Real-time audio/video event reverse A marker tool that you can use to move or delete multiple selected markers Automation recording for track envelopes and key frames Audio volume/opacity event envelope changes are applied to all selected events. Networked rendering Enhanced application scripting HDV project and rendering templates (AVI and MPEG-2) The ‘Networked rendering’ is a very useful feature for big scale projects. But in the other hand Vegas has good rendering speeds even on ‘slow computers’. The best example is I’ve already rendered three short movies/films (20-40 minutes) on my 1GHz P3 with only 128ram. I hope to see you also using Vegas in the near future. Make your editing jobs fun filled and share your views through this blog. Regards, Nimal -Never hide, Just TalkOut! -
